Senior Kindergarten to Grade 7
Our counsellors and specialists make certain that our campers are exposed to the full range of programs we have to offer. We strive to choose specialities and programs where campers learn to work together, have fun and continue to develop their self-confidence and skill levels. The counsellors get to know their campers well and design programs accordingly which range from the wide variety of specialities – canoe, archery, arts and crafts, campcraft, nature, etc. - to cabin group activities that are planned by the counselling staff. Their are also special days that are both unit based and camp wide that help round out those lasting camp memories! With this age range there are at least 2 counsellors per group and the counsellor/camper ratio for these campers is better than 1 to 7. Campers who have completed Senior Kindergarten through Grade 7 are divided into all-girls and all-boys sections and grouped according to their age/grade level that he/she would have completed prior to the summer.
Junior Campers
Campers who have completed Senior Kindergarten by the summer are referred to as the Junior Boy Archers & Junior Girl Maidens while those completing Grade 1 by the summer are the Junior Boy Jousters & Junior Girl Lasses. At our camp we have the opportunity to group the campers according to the time of year that they were born, which for this age group often proves to be quite successful as kids born later in the school year may not be at a similar stage as campers born earlier in the school year (although we do recognize that there are exceptions to this rule and thus are flexible with our grouping). In addition to all of the great camp programs we offer, these campers have an opportunity to participate in optional programs such as our "Extended Day". The Extended Day program occurs once each month and allows Junior Campers to remain at camp until 8pm. Campers participate in a special themed program which includes an additional swim period, dinner and activities. Transportation is provided to specific locations in the GTA on these evenings and/or families can arrange to pick their camper up at the camp site after these evenings. Extended days are a great opportunity for campers to experience what it would be like to stay on an overnight but then have the luxury of sleeping in their own bed at night!
Intermediates and Seniors
Our campers who have completed Grades 2 & 3 are part of the Intermediate Units and those that have completed Grades 4 to 7 are part of our Senior Unit. These campers are given more choice as they participate in our programs. These choices include Hobby Hubs (Intermediates) and Options (Seniors), Seniors and intermediates (Grades 2 & 3) and Senior (Grade 4-7) campers are given more program choice as they participate in our program. Choices include Hobby Hubs (Intermediates) and Options (Seniors), which allow them to focus on specific activities that they enjoy doing more often. Intermediate and Senior campers can also participate in our optional 1 night “on-site” camping experience. Campers who have completed Grades 2 through 7 also have the opportunity to visit our overnight camp - Camp Walden - for a 4-day trip in August. This opportunity is offered to campers in this age group who attend Camp Robin Hood / Robin Hood Sports Academy at any point during the summer (for example a July camper can still apply to attend the August 4-day trip).
