Leadership Training – Grades 8 & 9



Our experience indicates that a truly effective Leadership Training Program strives to develop knowledge and skills through the presentation of theory and the involvement of hands-on learning. This program often has educators who design and impliment this program - we feel that by delivering a high quality Leadership Program we are giving our campers the very best foundation for becoming our "future leaders". Participation in regularly scheduled weekly placements in a variety of areas at camp plays an important role as well. We believe that our Leaders In Training (LITs) - those campers who have completed grade 8 by the summer - and our Councellors in Training (CITs) - those campers who have completed Grade 9 by the summer - need to understand age characteristics, be aware of how to plan age appropriate activities and understand how to impliment behaviour management techniques as well as motivational approaches so that they and our campers can be successful. In fact, many of the skills learned in this program are "life-long learnables" that will benefit these campers througout their life no matter what path they choose to pursuit.


A mandatory overnight/retreat will take place at the beginning of each month to allow us to reach our program objectives. In July, our LITs/CITs take part in a 3 day retreat to Claremount Conservation Area where team building and hands on learning are the focus. In August, the retreat tends to be one evening spent at Robin Hood. In addition, each year our LITs/CITs plan a variety of trips and activities throughout the summer that build on the memories so many of our staff and campers have of their time at Robin Hood.


We feel that the ultimate leadership experience comes from participation in our full 8 week program. However, campers may be interested in being part of our exciting new travel adventure camp - called Robin Hood Adventures for the first part of the summer where they can still benefit from a 4 week CIT/LIT program in August. Another option for some might be to attend our CIT/LIT program for 6 weeks. Please refer to our Fees and Dates page for special fees for these future camp leaders.
