At Camp Robin Hood we like to flip the question: is your child right for our camp? There are many wonderful camps in the GTA and finding the right fit matters more than finding the most popular one. This page will help you figure out quickly whether Robin Hood is the right match, and if not, we will tell you that too.
Camp Robin Hood is an 80-year-old family-run day camp on 50 acres in Markham, serving children ages 4 to Grade 9 from many neighbourhoods in the GTA from many neighbourhoods in the GTA. We offer our Traditional programming, a Sports Academy, all in a screen-free, cabin-style group environment.
Who Thrives at Camp Robin Hood
Children who do best at Camp Robin Hood tend to be curious, active, and open to trying new things in a safe and supportive environment. They do not need to be outgoing – many of our best summers belong to quieter kids who surprised themselves. What matters most is a willingness to be outdoors, be part of a group, and step away from screens for the day.
Camp Robin Hood is a spirited, high-energy outdoor camp experience built around friendship, community, variety, and discovery. Campers spend their days moving between activities, building routines, developing confidence, and trying new experiences alongside their peers. Children who enjoy swimming, sports, creative play, outdoor exploration, and cabin friendships tend to feel especially at home here.
First-time campers are very common in our younger age groups, and our staff and routines are specifically designed to help new campers settle in quickly. Most campers are feeling comfortable and connected by Day 2.
While many campers arrive with favourite interests or activities, our program is intentionally broad and well-rounded, giving children the opportunity to discover new passions and experiences throughout the summer. We are always happy to learn more about your child and help determine whether Camp Robin Hood feels like the right fit for a successful and positive camp experience.
Week One of Camp
By the end of a first week, most campers are more independent than their parents expected. They are navigating routines on their own, building friendships within their cabin group, trying activities they would have avoided at home, and getting off the bus with something to say about their day.
Parents often tell us the biggest surprise is how quickly their child wanted to leave to go to camp in the morning.
Common Parent Concerns
The distance. Our Markham campus is further than a neighbourhood program, and that distance is part of what makes it special. Fifty acres of countryside is the point. We serve many neighbourhoods in the GTA with a structured bus network, and most campers are on site in under 50 minutes from their pickup point. Check out our Transportation page to learn more.
Is my child ready? For our youngest campers, Pre-K and Junior Kindergarten, this is the question we hear most. Our honest answer is: call us. We would rather have a 10-minute conversation with you than have you guess. Our directors give personal recommendations and we offer several opportunities to visit our site before the season begins.
Making friends. Cabin groups are intentionally small and age-based. Staff are trained specifically to facilitate connection, not just supervise activity. Friendships form faster than most parents expect, often on the bus before camp even starts.
