Camp Robin Hood/Camp Walden: Home & Away and Back Home

A natural partnership for over 20 years

As the first Ontario day camp to also operate an overnight camp, we are proud to call Camp Walden our sister camp! With a commitment to providing a day camp experience that feels like overnight camp, Camp Robin Hood is the perfect starting point for many kids’ first experiences of summer camp. The relationship between Camp Robin Hood and Camp Walden is more than a partnership; it is an integrated, family-driven model that provides children with a thoughtfully designed pathway from day camp to overnight camp. This unique connection, built on shared leadership, philosophy, and programming, ensures a supportive, consistent, and enriching camp experience for families. 

Camp Walden has benefitted from high demand in recent years. This has resulted in a calculated method by which first-time campers (typically grade 1-2) can enter the Walden registration system. Out of necessity, Camp Walden has had to prioritize Camp Walden staff alumni children over new to Walden families.

We are no longer offering the Home & Away program in its traditional format.  After nearly 25 years of successful Home & Away programs, and in response to parent feedback, we have decided to give families even more flexibility. Families are still invited to “build their own Home & Away” by attending Robin Hood and Walden in some combination.

We are happy to offer a program created for grade 2,3,4 campers who wish to get a short-stay overnight experience at Camp Walden.

CAMP ROBIN HOOD OVERNIGHT PROGRAMS

Home & Away & Back Home (HABH)

This program, designed for campers completing grades 2,3,& 4, takes place during session 3 (early August) at Camp Robin Hood. Campers will enjoy a 4-day start to the session at day camp and then travel to Camp Walden for 3 nights (Friday to Monday) and then return to Camp Robin Hood (Tuesday-Friday) to close out their two-week “Home & Away & Back Home” experience. This is the perfect program for families looking for a short-stay overnight experience. Campers can be enrolled in either our traditional day camp program (CRH) or Robin Hood Sports Academy (RHSA).

Note:

• This program is only available to campers who are not enrolled in any other Camp Walden summer program.
• This program is a Robin Hood program and does not provide priority registration at Walden as a returning Walden camper.

CAMP WALDEN DISCOVERY PROGRAMS

• The Walden Long Weekend – This 3 night experience for campers who have completed Grade 1, serves as wonderful taste of what Camp Walden has to offer. From travelling on a coach bus to living in a typical camper cabin, the Walden Long Weekend is a great experience. Throw in meals in the dining hall with the entire Walden community and activities all around camp and your child will have the time of their life. The program is geared to children who have never been to overnight camp before and more details can be found by visiting the Camp Walden website.
• The Family Weekend – We invite all Camp Walden families, alumni, and prospective campers’ families and friends for a chance to enjoy the Walden experience together. Priority will be given to those families who have registered campers and have never visited the property before. Enjoy meals in our Dining Hall, activities on our private lake, sports activities galore, and our spacious cabins with your family and friends. Included in this memorable weekend will be evening programs, campfires, games and much more! We hope you will join us for a unique weekend combining family time and the fun of summer camp.

BENEFITS TO ROBIN HOOD CAMPERS AT WALDEN

Some priority is given to Robin Hood campers in their application to Walden programs.  All Walden applications are considered in the following order: 

1. Siblings of enrolled Camp Walden campers
2. Children of Camp Walden alumni who Worked at Camp Walden in 2004 or later, and whose camper attended Camp Robin Hood the previous summer.
3. Worked at Camp Walden in 2004 or later, and whose camper did not attend Camp Robin Hood the previous summer.
4. Worked at Camp Walden in 2003 or before, and whose camper attended Camp Robin Hood the previous summer.
5. Worked at Camp Walden in 2003 or before, and whose camper did not attend Camp Robin Hood the previous summer.
6. Other campers who attended Camp Robin Hood the previous summer
7. The General Public

BENEFITS TO WALDEN STAFF ALUMNI AT CAMP ROBIN HOOD

• A 5% discount will be applied to all Camp Robin Hood programs attended by children of Walden Staff Alumni.
• Start their camp journey at a day camp with other Walden alumni campers intending to send their kids to Camp Walden.
• Piece of mind knowing that both camps are operated with the same commitment to care, communication and customer service. 

SPECIAL CANCELLATION POLICY FOR 2026 ROBIN HOOD FAMILIES ATTENDING CAMP WALDEN IN 2027

Through our longstanding partnership and co-ownership of Camp Walden, we know that some Robin Hood families may be considering a combination of both camps for their child’s summer experience.

To provide some additional flexibility, this special cancellation policy is available to returning Camp Robin Hood families whose child attended Robin Hood in Summer 2026 and is registered for both Camp Robin Hood and Camp Walden for Summer 2027.

If your child ultimately extends their stay at Camp Walden and, as a result, you need to reduce their Camp Robin Hood registration:

• By April 30, 2027: A $100 cancellation/reduction fee will apply, with the remaining fees for the cancelled Robin Hood session refunded.
• After April 30, 2027: A $250 cancellation/reduction fee will apply, with the remaining fees for the cancelled Robin Hood session refunded. The reduction must be requested no later than one week prior to the start of the applicable Robin Hood session.
• Within one week of the CRH session beginning: Credit toward the following summer, less a $250 cancellation fee

This special policy is intended to give our returning families flexibility when planning a summer that includes both Robin Hood and Walden, while allowing us to appropriately manage the Robin Hood spaces being held.

The policy applies only when a camper remains at Camp Walden for the corresponding dates and therefore no longer requires their Robin Hood session. All other cancellations or registration changes are subject to Camp Robin Hood’s regular cancellation and change policies.
